In January 2004 David was invited to become an Associate Lecturer in graphic design for the Information Design pathway of the BA Graphic and Media Design course. This is a position he held until stepping down in October 2007, to enable him to work with Nick Bell Design.

During this period David taught on the Information Design pathway under the leadership of Martin Ashley, and alongside Hamish Muir, David Phillips, Ian Noble and Gulizar Cepoglu. He wrote, developed and taught the principles of graphic information design, delivering seminars, workshops and discussions for the first-year students. In addition to this, David wrote and delivered the 2007 Design Summer School, a 2-week programme run by the LCC for design students from America. This was a typographic letterpress design workshop, conducted with Alex Cooper.
